24 AUGUST, 79 AD: On August 24, A.D.79, Vesuvius Volcano suddenly exploded and destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii, Stabiae and Herculaneum. Year 5/6K children performed many writing tasks in conjunction with their Vesuvius theme. Here's some of their work:

Here's another sample of the children's work by Kyle,  called "Ben's Diary"

Vesuvius Erupts by Andy
Today when I woke up my bed was on the other side of the room. Then mum came in. Then
Petronia came in and calmed me down and took me to the wet nurse. So I had some breakfast. Then
I went to play with my toys but they kept moving all over the place. Because the gods were making the
ground rumble.

Then suddenly I heard a loud scream. Petronia came in and picked me up and ran out
the front door. Mum was no-where to be seen. We started to run towards the beach.. She yelled out
"wait for us" to a soldier. We caught up quickly and ran down the steps and onto the beach.. We saw a lady on top of the wall saying "I warned you" .

Then Flavia Theodora ran onto the pier and tried to bribe a young fisherman to row her away from the beach with all her money and jewels. But he wouldn’t so she grabbed the oars and tried to row herself but was flung back and killed. Everyone was running into the boat chamber so we followed but the soldier got hit by a big rock on the back of the neck and killed.

We kept running and finally got there and had some shelter. The last thing I remembered was
Petronia saying "It will be all right". Then all went quiet.
