The
Olympic Torch Relay
Here's
some pictures of Rochedale's very own Torch Bearer, Mrs Monique
Miers.
Mrs
Miers was selected to be in the Torch Relay because
of her sporting achievements which include a Gold Medal
in the 4X100 relay at the Auckland Commonwealth
Games in 1990, and a 6th in the Barcelona Olympics
in 1992. Mrs Miers' section was only 400 metres
from Brodie St to Pickworth St at Mt Gravatt in
Brisbane, but I bet they were the the proudest 400
metres she has ever run!! Please click on the images
below for a bigger picture.
Our
Year 4 kids have been emailing Fox Creek Elementary
School in Colorado USA, this term and were keen to write
and tell the American children about their experiences watching
Mrs Miers. Here's some of their emails under the
pictures.

Dear Brittni
On Tuesday 13th June, the class went to see Mrs Meiers run with the
Olympic torch. I'm going to see the Olympic games. Are you going to the
Olympics? Mrs Meiers is one of our school teachers. At school we got to carry the
torch about 8 metres. the blue on the torch stands
for our blue seas, the white bit for the opera
house. Have you heard about the Olympics? It comes around
every 4 years.

Dear Eric,
Just lately the Olympic torch has been traveling through
Brisbane. On Tuesday we went to see the Olympic torch
traveling through Mt Gravatt because one of our teachers Mrs
Meiers was running 400 metres with the torch. It was
blue, white and silver. At the moment it is traveling
through Rockhampton. One of the best things about school lately was we got to carry
the torch about 8 metres. Bye for now,
Chris.

Dear Jaquia,
On Tuesday 13.6.00 my class went to see Mrs Meiers (our grade 2 teacher)
run with the Olympic torch. There were heaps of police and some people got
to hold the torch. White, blue, silver are the colours on the torch. It has a
picture of the Opera house and a boomerang. The torch is now in Rockhampton
which is 800 kilometres away from here. Parents drove us there and it took
15 minutes to get there. When we came back we had lunch. After that we went
on our oval and we got to run with torch.
Love from Danielle.

Dear Aaron,
Hi how are you? I am fine. The Olympic games is being held in Sydney and
our school teacher has run with the torch. The Olympic
torch has the opera house shape on top of it. The blue is for the sea and the white is the
sails of the opera house. It is 86 days until the Olympics.

Dear Rebecca,
A week ago on the 13.6.00 we went to see our teacher Mrs Meiers run with
the torch. We went to see her because she held the torch at Mt Gravatt. Mrs
Meiers ran for 400 metres. The Olympic torch is going to go to Rockhampton
and further north. Did you see the Olympic torch in America?

Mikki.

Dear Alison,
Have you ever seen the Olympic torch? One of our teachers got to carry it.
We got to go and see it. The Olympic torch has 3 different colours. The
colours are blue, white, and silver. Mrs Meiers got to keep her torch that
she carried. Our class took turns carrying it around the oval.

Dear Lara,
Last week on Tuesday, we went to see Mrs Meiers one
of our grade two teachers run with the torch. The place we
traveled to was called Mt Gravatt, which is 15 minutes drive from Rochedale. At the moment the torch
is at Rockhampton which is 8 hours from Brisbane by car. The torch colours
were blue, white and silver. The blue stands for the ocean. When you see the
torch it looks like the top of the opera house in Sydney. I hope you like
your letter
Your pen pal
Amy.
