Future
Heroes -
Here's
some of the Olympians of the future from Rochedale State
School. Our athletes compete keenly in all sports and
with our great swimming pool, we have some heroes in the
making in our keen swimming club.
Mini
Olympics:
On Monday, 29 May, 2000,
Years
1 to 3 children at Rochedale State School participated in
their own Mini Olympics to get into the spirit of the
Games and to celebrate 'Under Eight's Week'. Here's our program
of Events, in case other schools may like
to run their own, and also some pictures of our Future
Heroes.

Events:

Gymnastics Free Play - |
Rolling
on mats.
Playing with hoops.
Skipping.
Walking along beam. |
| 2.
Standing Long Jump - |
Stand
on mat and jump into pit, two feet
jump to two feet. |
| 3.
Target Shooting - |
Throw
balls at targets on the fence from
marker. |
| 4.
Relay Running - |
Even
out teams, give each team a baton to
run with between lines. |
| 5.
Shot Put - |
Bean
bag toss for distance. Children have
one each if possible. |
| 6.
Hockey Golf - |
Children
have own stick and ball. Try to get
ball into hoop in least number of
hits. 3 or 4 start at each hole. |
| 7.
Discus - |
Frisbee
throw for distance (ice cream lid). One
group throw at once, then pick up
together for next group. |
| 8.
Hurdles - |
Could
be run in a relay or in groups of
eight - to other line and back. |
| 9.
Tennis - |
Use
paddle bats to hit/toss bean bag over
net (chairs) to partner. |
Events
rotate every four minutes. Rotate in a
clockwise direction. Allow 45 minutes for
whole Olympics then medal presentation.
Events may be adapted as necessary to suit
children's ages and ability.
