Every Wednesday morning at 9.00am, Year 5G at Rochedale State School have a Morning Session. The children take turns at presenting one of the chosen topics which include - News, Demonstration, General Knowledge, Song, Science Experiment and Book Review.

Here's some photos from our Morning Session on Wednesday, 5 March, 2003.

Here's a cooking demonstration where we all got to taste some yummy Rice Bubble Slice.
First we take a packet of marshmallows and then we add butter.
Then we add some caramel pieces and melt it all in the microwave. Give it a stir to mix all the ingredients together.
Next we add the rice bubbles and then all the mixture is pressed into a tray lined with greaseproof paper.
The slice is refrigerated until the mixture is set. We all enjoyed a piece after morning tea. Then we had our first Science experiment.
This experiment shows how a vacuum is created by burning a candle.
First we melted some wax on the tray to keep the candle in place.
It took a few goes to keep the candle in its place. Then we lit the candle.
Then some coloured water was poured around the candle and a glass was placed over it.
The water was sucked up into the vacuum created under the glass. Then we had an interesting Book Review.
Our next Science Experiment was another one on vacuum, showing how a boiled egg can be sucked into a bottle.

Unfortunately we had a bit of a problem getting the paper to stay alight, but eventually the egg was sucked part way into the bottle as a small vacuum was created by the burning paper. Later on, the yolk was sucked right out of the egg!!
