Found: Looking for info on Capt. Kidd's treasure buried ..coast of Maine.
Phrase: Fantastic!
Comments: There are folks in my family who think Captain "Sir" Henry Morgan is a however many
great grandfather of ours. I think it unlikely, perhaps an uncle or a cousin. Our grandmother is a Morgan.
What I am looking for today is info about the lawsuit brought by Frederick Law Olmstead vs. John Jacob Astor (his family), regarding the treasure that Captain William
Kidd was reputed to have buried somewhere along the Maine coast. After reading a copy of "A Notable Law Suit" reproduced by W.H. Mather, I was hoping to find something on
the internet regarding this subject, BUT, have found nothing. this lawsuit ends with the Astor family settling with
Olmstead for 5 million dollars in about 1896. (An incredible sum to be paid in those days!) My friend who gave me this paper...his family owns an Island very close to the
one where the treasure was found. (Perhaps you would like a copy of this paper?)
